JOHN LE CARRE' è nato a poole, Inghilterra, il 19 ottobre 1931. Mondadori ha pubblicato i seguenti romanzi: la talpa (1974). Una verità delicata (2013). Tiro al piccione (2016). Un passato da spia (2017).

RECENSIONE

La Guerra fredda per John le Carrè non è mai finita, ha cambiato pelle e nome. E strumento. Autore di molti romanzi: Chiamata per il morto (1961), Un delitto di classe (1962), La spia che venne dal freddo (1963), La talpa (1974). Negli anni 90 le Carrè mette a riposo George Smiley, il suo personaggio d'esordio. Nel secondo periodo i romanzi più importanti sono: Il direttore di notte (1993), Il sarto di Panama (1996), Il giardiniere tenace (2001), Amici assoluti (2003).

John Le Carrè ha pensato ad un nuovo personaggio che, gli avrebbe permesso di raccontare storie in luoghi diversi in modo più realistico. E' il classico personaggio in cui si riflettono moltissime persone. Forse perchè tutti noi siamo un pò solitari. Il fatto che sia un uomo solo gli permette di metterlo in relazione con persone nuove, storie che possono, proseguire o interrompersi.

Un buon libro deve raccontare esperienze coinvolgenti ed emozionanti, per avere una marcia in più deve esserci il rischio del pericolo fisico ma anche di quello emotivo. A distanza di tempo, oggi l'America è perfino più oscura. C'è così tanto denaro e così tanta povertà. 

Risalta dalla lettura del libro la totale sfiducia nell'attuale amministrazione del governo Trump. Il motore dietro al romanzo "Agent Running in the Field", segna diversi elementi: la vocazione dell'affresco sociale, la voglia di dire tutto di tutti, una scrittura con pochi fronzoli. 

Le Carrè aspira a raccontare l'America tutta, dagli anni immediatamente successivi alla Guerra fredda, fino all'inizio del Novecento, una sorta di caratteristica implicita, se non ciò che brucia nel cuore degli uomini e ciò che invece, deriva dai più ampi sommovimenti della storia, troverà in "Agent Running in the Field", diverse soddisfazioni.
